Get Creative in the Creative Arts Marketplace

Visitors saw what was new in the world of crafting in our NEW Creative Arts Marketplace. A showcase spotlighting artisans and craft suppliers, including beads, paper craft, scrapbooking, mosaic and much more.  While there you could sign up for the fun and interesting make-it and take-it classes and demonstrations.

You learned how to make and install a backsplash, shower, floor insert or stair riser. Discover which materials work best in each environment, what substructures and adhesives are required and how to work with mosaic mesh. Beautify your home with your own creativity. 

Friday 6:30pm – Wrap It Green

Gift Wrapping Specialist, Gabriela Delworth showed us how to Wrap It Green and Wrap it with style.  By bringing a small gift, Gabriela taught us great trends for the Spring – Summer season.  Learn to decorate using the beautiful embellishments or how to group your presents together to create a masterpiece.  

We enjoyed interesting Japanese Floral Arranging, simple & effective Floral Designs and creative Planter demonstrations. 

IN BOOTH DEMONSTRATIONS:

PERSONALIZED NAME - Using innovative and exciting computer graphic tools,  you could custom make your own personalized name print, suitable for framing.

We all enjoyed fun and exciting demonstrations on how to use appliqué designs, in metal and crystals, that could be applied to clothing like shirts and jeans, as well as other items you might not have thought of before like valances and tablecloths. Demonstrations ran throughout the day in booth K42.

Rechargeable batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, digital cameras, and remote control toys. RBRC recycles the following battery chemistries: Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion) and Small Sealed Lead* (Pb). RBRC is dedicated to keeping rechargeable batteries and cell phones out of our nation’s solid waste stream and preserving natural resources. We were encouraged to bring our rechargeable batteries and let them dispose of them for us. Located in Hall 2 (Please note only rechargeable batteries and cell phones apply for this program). John Sillaots  Green Efficient Bathroom Renovations Ever wonder what to do with that space under the stairs? Do you need an extra bathroom?   John Sillaots showed us great bathroom renovations that solved our dilemma.  This small space renovation can be done anywhere and it is totally “green”.  You didn’t want to miss this great and informative presentation.
Vicky Sanderson The Eco-Friendly Home/Reduce, Reuse, Redecorate   Environmentally friendly products for the home are good for the planet, but a tad dull, right? Not anymore! We saw manufacturers and retailers offering products that deliver great design and help reduce your family’s eco-footprint.  Also, we discovered how everything old can be new – and fabulous – again. Recycled, refurbished materials and items are hot, hot, hot now in home décor. We saw what’s new and exciting in “reclaimed design” and learned a few fun tips for turning would-be trash into treasures.
Greg Labbe Making Your Home Energy Efficient Think spring isn’t the season to worry about making your home energy efficient? Think again – it’s the perfect time to ensure that your house will stay cool in summer and cozy in winter. Energy efficient expert Greg Labbe of GreenSavers showed us how, and answered our questions.
Stephen Collette Greening your Bedroom/Air Quality and Your Healthy Home Making your house green is easier when you do it one room at a time.  Stephen helped us focus on a fun room – the bedroom.  Also discovered ways to improve air quality and your home in genera, making your life greener and healthier.
Chris Winter 10 Steps to Reducing Your Ecological Footprints/ Save The World – Building a Conservation Movement Chris Winter of the Conservation Council of Ontario focused on easy ways that we all can help reduce our eco-footprint. Also, we learned just how if we all work together, even a small effort will be the start of something big.  Visitors found out what they could do to help.
Emily Alfred Rain Barrels – Why Everyone Should Have One Emily Alfred from Riversides showed us the importance and effective use of rain barrels.  We learn just how easy it is and just why we should have one.

A Builder’s Paradise If you’re looking to build a second home or have a building/renovation question, we had experienced exhibitors who  answered our questions.  Renovation World, located in Hall 2, emphasized the most up-to-date building, renovating and home improvement products.  You could stroll over to Hall 3 and meet Canada’s Best Home Builders on Dream Builder’s Walk.

While at the International Home & Garden Show you can visit the 16^th Annual Successful Gardening Show at no extra charge,  featuring the Gardener’s Dream Marketplace, the Ontario Horticultural Association’s Floral Design & Plant Competition, the Toyota Ontario Gardener Seminar Stage, the Awesome Tropical Rainforest and much more.  Also, performance artist Daryl Maddeaux from Rock On Rock created an awe-inspiring rock mountain that defies gravity.
